The framework

Daniel Priestley created this framework. He calls it the Hook Pitch. It follows the shape of a fishing hook. You start low, then rise.

The structure has six parts. Five are required. One is optional.

1. Name

Say your name and your company name. That's it.

People don't have perfect memory. When you say your name first, you open a mental folder. Everything you say next gets filed there. Skip this and they remember the pitch but forget who said it.

2. Same

Describe what you do in the most plain, boring way possible. Use words your grandmother would understand.

"I run a construction company." "We do IT consulting." "I own a home health care agency."

This is supposed to be boring. You're setting the floor. If you start exciting, you have nowhere to go. Same gives people the category so they're not confused.

3. Fame

Now you prove you're credible. This is where the energy starts rising.
